Picture a convention centre full of mentors lined up factory-style to deliver business advice to hopeful entrepreneurs. This was the scene at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre last week as attendees strived to set a Guinness World Record for speed networking.
The event was part of the annual Ontario Centres of Excellence Discovery 12 conference. Our platform was used to liveblog the various panels, talks and events at the conference, and we also set up an exhibit there. The annual event focuses on bringing together innovators and key players from various industries in the hopes of facilitating collaboration between the two.
Our CEO Michael De Monte lent his mentoring skills to help the event set a Guinness World Record in “Most People Attending a Business Speed Networking Event – Single Venue” category.
The event brought together 328 mentors and protegees. The protegees had three minutes to ask their mentors questions and advise for their ideas and businesses, taking notes frantically as the mentors tried to compress their experiences and recommendations before the buzzers went off.
Rock Content was proud to witness all the hard work needed to meet the Guinness standard. An official Guinness World Record adjudicator was flown in from London to ensure that the event went as planned. Volunteers from OCE monitored the timed mentor-proteges interactions. Check out Discovery’s liveblog for a detailed look inside the conference and Guinness event.
